Summit Evolution
Summit Evolution is a human-interface system that occupies the confluence of vector and raster data types. Far more than a routine digitizing tool, Summit is designed with the user in mind, and so provides a set of logical, intuitive, yet powerful tools for extracting information from data. Tools for viewing, analyzing, manipulating, and processing 3-dimensional geodata, all designed with the goal of helping to understand and model the shape and content of the earth’s surface.

Among the Terrain Processing tools is Follow Terrain, which uses a pre-existing DTM to direct vertical movement of the Summit cursor, thereby simplifying and speeding 3D feature collection and editing. Similarly, the Elevate Layers tool can create 3D vectors from 2D. Terrain Visualizer gives real-time graphic feedback on the effects of edits to a terrain model, and sending the results to Contour Creator builds the cartographic-quality CAD elements. Point Translator contains a wealth of tools for accurately, easily manipulating a wide assortment of terrain models, drag-and-drop image management and machine-assisted fiducial and control-point location; fast automatic loading of adjacent models; auto localized histogram adjustment.

The system provides for easy management of an unlimited number of stereomodels, along with their associated camera and control files, in a project-based environment. Summit Evolution leverages additional capabilities of the companion software, if available, such as vector databases and imagery services.

Supported image sources include digital and scanned aerial film imagery, matrix and push-broom digital airborne sensors, small- and medium-format metric cameras, close-range imagery, orthophotos, LiDAR, synthetic aperture radar, and satellites.

The latest in innovative software from DAT/EM Systems International, Landscape is an essential software tool for editing large terrain point sets such as LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) files. It provides an advanced, efficient, fast, and easy to understand portal into the world of 3-dimensional LiDAR points. Landscape is equipped with utilities for editing, modifying, and classifying 3D points (point clouds) and for generating new data based on the points. Landscape’s tools can be configured by the user to enhance understanding of the data view.

The editing tools in Landscape allow easy modification of point cloud data including a single point, all points in a project, or a selection built using Landscape’s sophisticated filtering tools. Included with Landscape is DAT/EM Drawing Tools, a simple built-in vector editor which may be used to collect and save vector features in a variety of formats. For more advanced digitizing tools, one or more companion DAT/EM Capture™ module may be added.

Easily integrated with Summit Evolution™, point clouds in Landscape may be viewed in tandem with stereo imagery, and each data type may be used seamlessly with the other to manage, edit, and collect vector and point cloud data.

DAT/EM Capture is the primary tool for vector information collection (which can be collected directly into one or more companion CAD or GIS programs) from stereo images. Currently supported companions are AutoCAD®, MicroStation®, and Esri ArcGIS®; the Capture API (Application Program Interface) enables easy access to other CAD and GIS programs. The stereo capture capability is a real boon to people trying to interpret imagery: urban planners, foresters, wetlands biologists, geologists...

DAT/EM Capture interfaces directly from one of DAT/EM’s flagship products, such as the Summit Evolution™ digital photogrammetric workstation or the Landscape™ point cloud editing toolkit, to one of three companion CAD or GIS applications. Or both. Or all three. Or more —with the DAT/EM API it is easy to create a custom interface.

Using a stereo front-end application such as Summit Evolution or Landscape to display stereo data, Capture works in the background to send 3D (X, Y, Z) ground coordinate triplets to the companion application. Simultaneously, 2D or 3D features from the CAD or GIS are rendered back in true relative 3D position in the stereo display using DAT/EM Super/Imposition™ for immediate feedback and feature verification. The user’s experience and productivity are enhanced from precise and instantaneous validation of their work.

Contour Creator
Contour Creator generates and stores permanent contours into .DXF or CAD or GIS drawings. Once editing the terrain model is complete, run Contour Creator to check for blunders and crossed contours, smooth the resulting lines, symbolize, and place them on their appropriate database category.Input for Contour Creator includes point and vector data to define breaklines, soft breaklines, exclusion areas (such as buildings), and inclusion areas (such as outer clipping boundaries).The program inputs and outputs from files on disk and/or directly into active AutoCAD, MicroStation, or ArcGIS (active ArcGIS is available only when DAT/EM Summit Evolution is installed with DAT/EM Capture for ArcGIS).Contour Creator automatically generates elevation contours and/or TIN lines. CONTOUR CREATOR is included with Summit Evolution Professional Edition and Landscape. It is also available for purchase as a stand-alone product.

MapEditor for Microstation is an MDL application that works completely within MicroStation and MicroStation-based applications. MapEditor runs on Windows XP®, Windows Vista®, and Windows 7.

As a component of Summit Evolution Professional, with Capture for ArcGIS, Airfield3D collects precise 3D geospatial airport and aeronautical data. It uses the stereoplotter engine of Summit Evolution Professional to enable viewing, identification, and attribution of objects penetrating sensitive airspace. Using DAT/EM's world-renowned stereo user interface, Airfield3D offers automatic project set up, automatic field calculation and attribution (with manual override), and visual cueing of obstruction surface violations. Airfield3D collects all data directly into FAA-designed templates for ArcGIS® so files are always in delivery format.

Creates orthophotos from the following Summit Evolution project types: Aerial, ADS40/80, DAT/EM-PCI ProPack, ENVI Epipolar, ALOS 1, and Satellites with RPC.
Improves orthophoto results with a wide variety of point file and vector file input formats. Multiple input formats may be used at the same time.
