MetaSensing’s solutions for coastal and aerial applications, such as detecting, tracking and identifying suspicious or not authorized aircrafts or ships, involves several different configurations of X-band radars specifically tailored for security needs, including coherent bistatic, inverse SAR and passive radars at UHF band.

Thank to its multichannel airborne sensors Poseyedon and the associated Space-Time Adaptive Processing (STAP), MetaSensing technology can discriminate moving targets within a clutter of standing objects.

On the other hand, sometimes it is important to assure a constant and reliable monitoring of strategic areas on a marine environment, like straits and gulfs. For this purpose MetaSensing developed a network of coastal radar sensors which operates simultaneously in a phase synchronized manner to drastically increase coverage, detection, tracking and imaging of very small boats.

The network consists in a variable number of sensors to be composed between coherent marine surveillance radars, providing high resolution range profiles for detection and tracking capabilities, and imaging radars which provide the imaging capabilities for Automatic Target Recognition purposes. Imaging is realized through Inverse SAR (ISAR) technology developed together with MetaSensing partners.

In order to assure a constant and reliable monitoring of strategic areas on a marine environment, such as straits and gulfs, MetaSensing developed a coastal radar network consisting in a low power, compact, rapidly deployable and scalable network of radar sensors for short-medium range port surveillance of small craft. The network is composed by a variable number of both Surveillance and Imaging Radars. Each sensor can operate as a stand-alone system and independently from the network as well as in a network configuration.

The MetaSensing Imaging Radar is a FM-CW X-band sensor which can be mounted everywhere permitting observations and surveillance with all weather conditions. This MetaSensing radar uses the Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar technique and  presents two different configurations: polarimetric or interferometric:

The polarimetric Imaging Radar has automatic target recognition purposes. The fixed flat panel antenna with horizontally and vertically polarized patch elements is specifically designed for fully polarimetric measurement.

The interferometric Imaging Radar with linear vertical polarization permits the creation of 3D images of the target.  The radar signal is irradiated towards the target through a flat panel antenna and the received echo is captured from three flat panel antennas fixed on a frame.

The coherent FM-CW Surveillance Radar at X-band provides high resolution range profiles for detection and tracking capabilities.

The two horizontally polarized slotted waveguide antennas, one for transmitting and one for receiving, are mounted on the rotator in order to perform the horizontal scanning required for the surveillance purposes. Moreover, the Surveillance Radar can be remotely locked and held for a pre-set amount of time to transmit and receive at a specific direction.
